ISLAMABAD: Pakistan government has announced the official holidays across the country on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.

According to notification issued by the Cabinet Division, the holiday period spans from Wednesday, April 10, to Saturday, April 13, offering citizens a four-day break to observe the sacred festival.

Eid-ul-Fitr, a significant occasion in the Islamic calendar, signifies the end of the month-long fasting period of Ramadan, with Muslims worldwide celebrating the conclusion of their spiritual devotion.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecasts the sighting of the Shawwal moon on April 9, 2024, across the country.

The birth of the Shawwal moon is expected on the night of April 8 at 11:21 pm local time, with an estimated age of 19 to 20 hours on April 9. Visibility to the naked eye is expected for approximately 50 minutes after sunset.

Should the moon be sighted on April 9, Eid-ul-Fitr will be observed on Wednesday, April 10, according to PMD.

Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad also convened the moon sighting committee meeting on April 9. He indicated that Eid-ul-Fitr 2024 is likely to fall on Wednesday, April 10, based on scientific observations predicting the sighting of the Shawwal crescent moon on the 29th of Ramadan.
