ISLAMABAD: Contrary to market expectations, Pakistan’s federal government has raised the price of petrol by Rs1.35 per litre for the next fortnight, effective from November 1 through November 15.

The adjustment brings the new petrol price to Rs248.38 per litre, up from Rs247.03, according to a notification from the Finance Division issued late Thursday.

The statement clarified that the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) had recalculated consumer prices for petroleum products based on fluctuations in the international market. “OGRA has worked out the consumer prices of petroleum products, based on the price variation in the international market,” read a statement released by the Finance Division.

Alongside the petrol increase, the price of high-speed diesel (HSD) has also been revised upward by Rs3.85, moving from Rs251.29 to Rs255.14 per litre.

The government has reduced the prices of other petroleum products. The price of kerosene, widely used for heating and cooking in rural areas, has been lowered by Rs1.48 to Rs161.54 per litre, down from Rs163.02.

Similarly, light diesel oil (LDO), primarily used in smaller commercial and agricultural machinery, saw a reduction of Rs2.61, bringing its price to Rs147.51 per litre from the previous Rs150.12.
