ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government’s negotiation team has outright rejected the demand of the opposition Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party regarding forming a judicial commission to probe the May 9, 2023 violence, it has reliably been learnt.

The team has finalised a detailed written reply to the demands of PTI which will be presented to National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq, shortly.

“Judicial commissions are typically reserved for matters not currently under judicial scrutiny. And the May 9 cases are under active judicial review with some individuals already convicted by the military courts. This is why a judicial commission cannot be formed,” well-placed sources told WE News English.

However, in a positive move, PTI has agreed to enter discussions with the Prime Minister’s committee, with an in-camera session set to take place at the Parliament House for further deliberation.
