Pakistan Govt Releases Rs 66.03b for Water Resources Schemes in FY23-24

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s federal government has disbursed an amount of 66.037 billion rupees for various water resources schemes so far under the annual Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) of the current financial year 2023–24.

According to the official data issued by the Planning Commission, the government had specified an amount of 110.500 billion rupees for various projects in PSDP 2023–24. Out of the total release sum, the local component stood at 90.367 billion rupees, while the foreign aid component was 20.132 billion rupees. A sum of 52.235 billion rupees has been spent on different water-related projects so far.

For ongoing schemes, a sum of 20,000 million rupees has been allocated for Damer Basha Dam Project (dam part), 15,500 million rupees for K-4 Greater Water Supply Scheme (Karachi), 500 million rupees for the Mohmand dam, 5,000 million rupees for Diamer Basha Dam Project (Land Acquisition and Resettlement), 3,273.834 million rupees for construction of Basool Dam, and 1000 million rupees for construction of 100 delay action dams in Balochistan.

Other Schemes

The government also allocated a sum of 3000 million rupees for the construction of the Awaran Dam, 1500 million rupees for the construction of the Gish Kaur Storage Dam, 2500 million rupees for the construction of the Panjgur Storage Dam, 2000 million rupees for the construction of Winder dam (Lasbela), 1244.741 million rupees for construction of six small dams (Zhob and Sherani districts), 1000 million rupees for increasing storage capacity and improvement in command areas of Tanda dam Kohat, 1000 million rupees each for Kurram Tangi dam, normal/emergent flood programme and 770 million rupees for Mangi dam.

Under the new scheme, 10,000 million rupees were allocated for Umbrella PC-1 of the Flood Protection Sector Project, 1000 million rupees each for the remodelling of Pat Feeder Canal, Kachhi Canal Project, construction of Sumari Payan dam project (Kohat), and 385.736 million rupees for the construction of Asreli Storage Dam Sui in the PSDP for FY 2023–24.
