ISLAMABAD: The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) on Saturday announced an increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) prices for December 2024, further raising concerns about affordability.

According to a notification issued on Saturday, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has been raised by Rs. 1.32, while a commercial cylinder will now cost an additional Rs. 5.07.

This brings the price of a domestic cylinder to Rs. 3,000.79, up from the previous Rs. 2,999.47, and a commercial cylinder to Rs. 11,545.41, up from Rs. 11,540.33.

OGRA stated that the production cost of LPG has increased by Rs. 112.16 per metric ton, resulting in a per-kilogram price adjustment from Rs. 254.19 to Rs. 254.30.

In October, OGRA hiked the LPG price by Rs. 7.31 per kilogram, setting the cost at Rs. 250.31 per kilogram. At the time, the price of an 11.8 kg domestic cylinder rose by Rs. 86.28, with the revised rate reaching Rs. 2,965.38.

Pakistan’s reliance on imported LPG complicates the situation. While domestic production accounts for only 40% of the demand, 60% of LPG is imported, leaving prices vulnerable to global market fluctuations and foreign exchange challenges.
