ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s historic lunar mission (ICUBE-Q) is going to launch today on board Chang’E6 from Hainan, China, local media reported.
The satellite ICUBE-Q has been developed by the Institute of Space Technology in collaboration with Pakistan’s national space agency SUPARCO and China’s Shanghai University SJTU.
ICUBE-Q orbiter carries two optical cameras to image the moon’s surface. After successful testing and qualification, ICUBE-Q has been integrated with the Chang’e6 mission. Chang’E6 is the 6th in a series of lunar exploration missions of China.

CubeSats are miniature satellites typically characterized by their mini size and standardized design. They are made in a cubic shape, consisting of modular components that adhere to specific size constraints.
These satellites often weigh no more than a few kilograms and are deployed in space for different purposes.
The primary purpose of CubeSats is to facilitate technology development, scientific research, and educational initiatives in space exploration. These satellites are utilized for a wide range of missions, including Earth observations, astronomy, remote sensing, atmospheric research, communications, and technology demonstration.
