Pakistan, ILO Discuss Global Workforce Standards

RIYADH: Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Overseas Pakistanis and Human Resource Development Jawad Sohrab Malik met with Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the International Labour Organization (ILO), on the sidelines of the Global Labour Market Conference (GLMC).

During the meeting, they discussed workforce development strategies for Pakistan with the global standards and initiatives set by the ILO.

This meeting marked a crucial milestone in fostering international collaboration to enhance the skills and employability of the Pakistani workforce, aligning with the best practices advocated by the ILO. Both parties recognized the importance of harmonizing national policies with global standards to ensure the well-being and prosperity of the workforce.

Gilbert Houngbo, the Director-General of the ILO, urged the global community to support and create employment opportunities for the youth in Pakistan. Acknowledging the demographic dividend of Pakistan, he emphasized the need for concerted efforts to tap into the potential of the young population and provide them with quality employment prospects.

SAPM Jawad Sohrab reaffirmed the commitment of Pakistan’s government to collaborate closely with the International Labour Organization. He stated that this collaboration aims to implement effective strategies for the benefit of the Pakistani workforce, creating a conducive environment for sustainable economic growth and the prosperity of Pakistan.
