ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and India today (Saturday) exchanged the lists of civilian prisoners and fishermen in their custody.
The exchange was performed through diplomatic channels simultaneously at New Delhi and Islamabad. Under the provisions of the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, Pakistan handed over a list of 308 Indian prisoners or are believed to be Indian, in Pakistan including 42 civilian prisoners and 266 fishermen, to the High Commission of India in Islamabad. Under the 2008 Agreement on Consular Access, such lists are exchanged every year on 1st January and 1st July.
India has shared lists of 343 civilian prisoners and 74 fishermen in its custody, who are Pakistani or are believed to be Pakistani.
The Indian government has been urged to release and repatriate all those Pakistani civilian prisoners and fishermen, who have completed their respective sentence and their national status stands confirmed.
Similarly, India has made the same kind of demand.
