Envoy to US: Pakistan Committed to Universal Values of Tolerance, Respect for People of All Faiths

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is steadfast in adhering to the principle of universal values of tolerance, inclusivity, and respect for people of all faiths, said Pakistan’s Envoy to the United States, Masood Khan.

According to a statement by Pakistan’s Embassy in Washington on Friday, Masood stressed this in his meeting with the leading members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Los Angeles, California.

Ambassador Masood Khan, during the interaction that the mutual activities between the people of both countries would give a boost in accelerating the development of mutual ties. The Envoy further stated that both governments work in tandem with regard to strategic issues.

Humanitarian donations

The Church of Latter-Day Saints’ stakes in Pakistani financial sectors, along with humanitarian donations together with works, were praised by Masood Khan.

He expressed gratitude to the Church for donating $2 million to the flood-hit people as well as rebuilding efforts in the calamity-hit regions.

In addition to this, the Envoy highlighted the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints’s advocacy to the diplomatic cadres in America. With reference to this, he stressed the effective manner in which the Church creates linkages with communities of different beliefs and faiths.

Church’s activities in Pakistan

Mathew Ball, Director of Public and International Affairs of the Church, in response, elaborated on the activities the Church undertook in Pakistan. According to Ball, from 1995 till the present, the Church has undertaken 107 humanitarian initiatives in Pakistan.

Working with Pakistani NGOs, the Church has undertaken nine humanitarian projects to aid those displaced and traumatized by the recent monsoon floodings. These interventions included emergency housing, clean water, medical supplies, water purification kits together with food.

These initiatives aided approximately 230,000 people and were actively carried out in all provinces affected by the unprecedently rains. – APP
