Pakistan Issues More Than 500 Visas to Sikh Pilgrims

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan High Commission in India has issued 509 visas to Sikh pilgrims from India to attend the death anniversary of Maharaja Ranjeet Singh, slated to be held in Pakistan from June 21-30.

Pakistan Charge d’Affaires Saad Ahmad Warraich Extending his heartfelt felicitations to the pilgrims,   underscored Pakistan’s continued commitment to extend all possible facilitation to the pilgrims, said a press release on Friday.

The visa to Indian pilgrims is given under the framework of Pakistan-India Protocol on Visits to Religious Shrines, 1974. Every year, a large number of Indian pilgrims visit Pakistan to observe various religious events.

In April this year, more than 3000 Sikh pilgrims from India visited Pakistan to take part in Besakhi Mela. The pilgrims reached Pakistan through Wagha border to participate in the Mela.

Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from across the world including India, attended a three-day celebrations marking the 553rd birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak at Gurudwara Janam Asthan in Nankana Sahib in December last year.
