Pakistan, Italy to Enhance Cooperation to Curb Human Trafficking

ISLAMABAD: Italian Ambassador to Pakistan, Marylina Ermelin, met with Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday and discussed mutual interests and bilateral relations.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi briefed the ambassador about his recent successful visit to Italy.

Mohsin Naqvi told the ambassador that in a meeting with the Italian Minister of the Interior, both countries agreed to collaborate closely against illegal human trafficking. As part of this agreement, it was agreed that a delegation of the Italian Ministry of Interior will visit Pakistan soon.

The delegation will engage with Pakistani authorities and visit border areas to strengthen efforts against drug and human trafficking.

Minister Naqvi emphasized the importance of robust cooperation between Pakistan and Italy to combat human trafficking, affirming that stringent measures are being implemented to curb these activities.

He stressed that preventing human trafficking at the border would benefit both nations and could discourage irregular migration by promoting skilled manpower migration instead.

Minister Naqvi expressed Pakistan’s readiness to contribute skilled manpower to Italy across various sectors, underscoring potential mutual benefits.

During the meeting, Minister Naqvi extended a formal invitation to the Italian Ambassador for a visit by her Italian counterpart to Pakistan. Ambassador Ermelin thanked Minister Naqvi for the cooperation extended in various areas.

The meeting was attended by Commandant FC Moazzam Jah Ansari, IG Islamabad Ali Nasir Rizvi, and senior officials from the Ministries of Interior and Foreign Affairs.
