ISLAMABAD: The Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, H.E. Mitsuhiro Wada, met with Mr. Muhammad Aurangzeb, the Minister for Finance and Revenue, to discuss mutual cooperation and congratulate the Minister on his new role.
Minister Aurangzeb affirmed the government’s commitment to implementing reforms aimed at achieving macroeconomic stability and sustainability. He emphasized the priority of increasing the tax-to-GDP ratio and outlined plans for end-to-end digitization to expand the tax base, enhance transparency, and improve the taxpayer experience. Additionally, he briefed the Ambassador on ongoing energy sector reforms, focusing on cost reduction and governance improvement through private sector involvement.
Ambassador Wada acknowledged the government’s dedication to prudent fiscal policies and structural reforms. He highlighted challenges faced by Japanese automakers in Pakistan and commended the government’s economic revival efforts, pledging Japan’s continued support for Pakistan’s growth initiatives.
The Finance Minister highlighted the recent robust growth of the agriculture and IT sectors and underscored the government’s commitment to fostering their development.
Both sides expressed their mutual desire to strengthen bilateral cooperation and work collaboratively towards common goals for the benefit of both nations, reflecting the strong partnership between Pakistan and Japan.
