Pakistan, Kazakhstan Agree on Joint Working Groups to Advance Trade

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif held a bilateral meeting today with Olzhas Bektenov, Prime Minister of Kazakhstan, on the sidelines of the SCO Council of Heads of Government (CHG) Meeting in Islamabad.

Welcoming Kazakhstan’s participation in the SCO CHG Meeting, Prime Minister Sharif reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to collaborating with all SCO member states to advance the organization’s principles and objectives.

He recalled his visit to Astana in July for the SCO Council of Heads of State Meeting and commended Kazakhstan’s contributions to enhancing cooperation among SCO countries.

Highlighting the strong bilateral relations between Pakistan and Kazakhstan, the Prime Minister emphasized the importance of boosting trade and investment, while also focusing on regional connectivity and security. He stressed the need for regular high-level engagements and called for convening meetings of the Joint Working Groups on trade and agriculture as soon as possible.

In response, the Prime Minister of Kazakhstan congratulated Prime Minister Sharif on successfully hosting the SCO Summit and praised Pakistan’s positive role as the SCO Chair.

He reiterated Kazakhstan’s commitment to working closely with Pakistan, both within the SCO framework and bilaterally, to enhance regional connectivity, trade, and development. He said that Kazakhstan views Pakistan as a key trade partner in South Asia.

Both leaders agreed to collaborate to unlock the full trade potential between their countries.
