SHANGLA: A devastating landslide in the Kuz Kaly area of Martung tehsil, located in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Shangla district, resulted in the tragic death of six children on Thursday, with one child sustaining injuries, according to officials.
The incident occurred when a group of children were playing in a field and were unexpectedly struck by a landslide. Rescue teams swiftly responded to the scene and initiated recovery efforts. At present, six bodies have been retrieved from the debris, while search and rescue operations are underway to locate any missing children.
Deputy Commissioner Hassan Abid of Shangla confirmed that the deceased and injured children were among a group of more than eight children who were caught under the landslide while playing cricket. Efforts are being made to locate and rescue the remaining children.
Landslide Incidents in Shangla
The affected area witnessed a massive landslide, which tragically claimed the lives of the young victims. Rescue 1122 teams have been deployed to the site to aid in the retrieval process. An emergency has been declared at the Martung rural health center and Puran Tehsil Headquarters Hospital to provide medical assistance to the injured and accommodate the recovered bodies.
As of now, six bodies and one injured girl have been recovered, and the rescue operation continues in an effort to locate any remaining individuals. Heavy machinery is being utilized in the rescue efforts, and local residents are actively participating in the operation.
Heartbroken witnesses from the area revealed that most of the children involved in the incident were siblings, aged between nine and 14 years.
