ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan warmly welcomed the World Bank’s recent announcement regarding the resumption of the CASA-1000 project in Afghanistan, a pivotal step forward in regional energy collaboration.

This decision, aligned with the “Approach 3.0” initiatives for Afghanistan, follows the joint request made by all three participating neighboring countries in December, reflecting a shared commitment to supporting the Afghan people.

In response, Pakistan, alongside neighboring countries Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan, has signed a Joint Declaration expressing gratitude to the World Bank for its prompt approval of the “ring-fenced” resumption of construction activities in Afghanistan. Furthermore, all parties affirm their full support to the World Bank in implementing the agreed parameters for the restart of CASA-1000 construction activities in Afghanistan.

CASA-1000, a $1.2 billion regional endeavor, aims to facilitate the transmission of clean energy from Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan to Pakistan via Afghanistan.
