Pakistan Launches Dashboard to Ensure Food Security

ISLAMABAD: The Government of Pakistan, in partnership with the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition (GAIN), has launched the “Pakistan Subnational Food Systems Dashboard” as part of efforts to revamp the country’s food systems and tackle food security issues.

The inauguration ceremony for the Pakistan Subnational Food Systems Dashboard (PSFSD) was jointly hosted by the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the Ministry of National Food Security & Research (M/o NFS&R), in collaboration with GAIN.

This initiative builds upon the global Food Systems Dashboard and is the result of collaborative work involving GAIN, FAO, Johns Hopkins University, and the Columbia Climate School at Columbia University.

The launch event demonstrated the high-level political commitment of the Pakistani government to enhance the transformation of the country’s food systems.

The ceremony was inaugurated by Captain (Retd) Muhammad Mahmood, Federal Secretary of the Ministry of National Food Security & Research (M/o NFS&R), who emphasized the importance of accurate data for shaping public policies and programs. He commended the support from GAIN, FAO, Johns Hopkins University, and the Columbia Climate School and recognized PARC’s technical role in hosting the dashboard.

Dr. Ghulam Muhammad Ali, Chairman of PARC, highlighted the collaborative efforts of stakeholders and development partners, especially GAIN, FAO, and WFP, in creating this prototype Subnational Food System Dashboard.

Dashboard to Enhance Food Security, Climate Resilience

Farrah Naz, Country Director of GAIN, underscored the significance of data and GAIN’s commitment to supporting future policy reviews and formulation. She also praised PARC’s leadership in advancing the Pakistan dashboard. Representatives from FAO, WFP, and GAIN provided technical insights on Pakistan’s research gaps, data collection challenges, and opportunities for transformative policymaking that can enhance food security, build climate resilience, and promote economic prosperity.

GAIN is collaborating closely with the Pakistan Agricultural Research Council (PARC) and the Ministry of National Food Security & Research to bolster the food systems transformation process in Pakistan, ensuring better access to safe and nutritious food.
