LAHORE: Legendary singer Madam Noor Jehan is remembered on her 97th birth anniversary across the globe including Pakistan today. She was one of the greatest singers of all time in South Asia, and who was given the title of Malka-e-Tarannum.
Madam Noor Jehan infused a new spirit of patriotism in the entire nation and motivated the country’s armed forces during the 1965 War. The history of the 65 War will remain incomplete without mentioning the matchless contribution of Malka-e-Tarannum Noor Jehan.

Her songs “Aye Puttar Hattan Te Nahi Wikde, Aye Watan ke Sajelay Jawano, Rang Laye Ga Shaheedon ka Lahoo, a Rah Haq Key Shaheeedo Wafa Ki Taswero, and many more had touched hearts and minds of every Pakistani besides creating a wave of nationalism from Karachi to Khyber during 65 War.
Madam Noor Jehan sang more than 20,000 songs in various languages including Punjabi, Urdu, Hindi, Sindhi, and her playback singing was considered a guarantee for the success of movies.
She holds a record for having given voice to a largest number of film songs in Pakistan’s cinema besides to have made more than 40 films on cultural, social, national and others significant issues as producer and director.
Her films Zeenat (1945), Dupatta (1952), Intezar (1956), Anarkali (1958), and others had broken all records of popularity and also promoted cinema in Pakistan.
Madam Noor Jehan was decorated with Presidential Performance Award for her huge services and contribution during 65 war and 15 Nigar awards for promoting film and music industry in Pakistan.
Malka-e-Tarannum Noor Jehan was also awarded Tamgha-e-Imtiaz for boosting the morale of Pakistan Army during 1965 war, Sitara-e-Imtiaz, PTV’s Voice of the Century title and Millennium Award.
The legendary singer of Pakistan passed away on December 23, 2000 following suffering a severe heart attack in Karachi.
