ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Maldives have agreed to form Joint Working Groups on various sectors to enhance bilateral cooperation.
This understanding came during a meeting between Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Cheema and High Commissioner of Maldives Muhammad Thoha in Islamabad on Wednesday.
Ahad Cheema suggested the creation of sector-specific Joint Working Groups on Tourism, Trade, Labour, Investment and Aviation under the framework of the Pakistan-Maldives Joint Commission.
The Maldives High Commissioner welcomed the proposal and said that his country will send its official representation for these Working Groups in the near future.
They also agreed to hold the inaugural session of the Pakistan-Maldives Joint Commission early next year.

The Minister told the High Commissioner that Pakistan is keen to explore new avenues for cooperation with Maldives in key areas. He welcomed the Maldivian side to explore the industries of Agricultural Products, Halal meat, Fruits and Surgical Instruments in Pakistan.
The High Commissioner, while stressing the physical proximity between Karachi and Maldivian Port, assured of his efforts to boost bilateral trade between both countries.
The Minister also highlighted the key role both countries can play in regional and international forums like SAARC and OIC on significant issues such as stronger climate action.
