ISLAMABAD: The government is considering asking for several billion dollars in projects on account of loss and damages, at the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the UNFCCC that will take place in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt next month.
The damage assessment survey is being conducted to determine the losses incurred due to the catastrophic floods for COP27, which is being held next month from November 6 to November 18 2022. Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, will co-chair the UN meeting of COP-27, along with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.
In response to the recent flood devastation, Pakistan received a pitiful sum of money from international donors, according to a report in a local newspaper. Pakistan now needs to lobby vigorously at the UN along with other developing nations affected by climate change in order to force the developed world to compensate those who are suffering losses due to climate effects.
