Pakistan Met Office Forecasts Nationwide Heavy Rainfall, Storms

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast continued rain, wind, and thundershowers across various parts of the country over the next week, interspersed with occasional breaks.

Authorities have been advised by the PMD to maintain vigilance and implement necessary measures to prevent any potential incidents.

Starting from July 22, strong monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea and Bay of Bengal are expected to impact northern regions.

This weather system will likely bring rain, wind, and thundershowers with occasional heavyfalls to Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galliyat, Attock, Chakwal, Tala Gang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Wazirabad, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Sialkot, Narowal, Sahiwal, Jhang, Toba Tek Singh, Nankana Sahib, Chiniot, Faisalabad, Okara, Pakpattan, Kasur, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, and Mianwali until July 25, with intermittent breaks.

Furthermore, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Multan, Khanewal, Lodhran, Muzaffargarh, Kot Addu, Rajanpur, Rahimyar Khan, and Layyah are expected to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers on July 23 and July 24.

In Kashmir, including areas like Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Rawalakot, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, and Mirpur, rain, wind, and thundershowers with occasional heavy rainfalls are anticipated from the evening of July 21 through July 27, with gaps in between.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa is likely to experience rain, wind, and thundershowers from the evening of July 22 to July 24, with heavy rainfall possible in areas such as Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Battagram, Buner, Kohat, Mohmand, Khyber, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Peshawar, Swabi, Nowshera, Mardan, Charsadda, Hangu, Kurram, Orakzai, Waziristan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, and Dera Ismail Khan.

In Balochistan, while most districts are expected to remain hot and humid, rain, wind, and thundershowers are forecasted for northern and eastern parts, including Khuzdar, Kalat, Lasbela, Awaran, Ziarat, Zhob, Barkhan, Musa Khel, Shirani, Kohlu, Harnai, Naseerabad, and Jaffarabad on July 23 and July 24, with intermittent breaks.

Similarly, Sindh province will experience mainly hot and very humid weather, with rain, wind, and thundershowers anticipated in Mithi, Sanghar, Umarkot, Tharparkar, Mirpur Khas, Sukkur, Larkana, and Dadu on July 23 and July 24, with intermittent gaps.

Gilgit-Baltistan is expected to have partly to mostly cloudy weather, with rainfall possible in Diamir, Astore, Skardu, Gilgit, Ghanche, and Shigar from July 22 to July 27, with occasional breaks.

Potential impacts include flash flooding in local streams and nullahs in Murree, Galliyat, Mansehra, Kohistan, Malakand, Dir, Swat, Shangla, Buner, Kurram, Orakzai, Khyber, Mohmand, Nowshera, Swabi, and Kashmir on July 23 and July 24. Urban flooding may affect low-lying areas of Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during this period. Landslides are also possible in hilly areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galliyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan.

Adverse weather conditions may disrupt daily routines and pose risks such as roof collapses, electric pole damage, and vehicle accidents. Farmers are advised to plan activities according to the weather forecast, while travelers and tourists are urged to exercise caution and adjust their plans in response to changing weather conditions to avoid any potential hazards.
