Pakistan Minister Emphasizes Space Exploration for National Development

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Ahsan Iqbal on Friday met with the Chairman Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO), emphasising the importance of space exploration for Pakistan’s progress.

During the discussion, the minister pointed out that while six countries have successfully landed on the moon, none of them were Muslim nations. He underscored that the holy Quran encourages Muslims to delve into and conquer the universe, citing the historical contributions of Muslim scientists to space research and technology.

Highlighting Pakistan’s pioneering role in space technology in South Asia during the 1960s, Ahsan Iqbal proposed the enhancement of the Institute of Space Technology and the National Center of Excellence for Satellite and Geographic Information System (GIS). Additionally, he suggested the establishment of a space museum at the Narowal Learning Center to foster science education among children.

The minister emphasized the necessity for Pakistan to keep pace with advancements in space technology and exploration, underscoring SUPARCO’s pivotal role in realizing this objective.  —APP
