ISLAMABAD: A delegation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by Assistant Secretary-General for Science and Technology Ambassador Askar Mussinove met Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Syed Aminul Haque, said a press release issued here, on Monday.
Both sides discussed matters of mutual interest and cooperation between Pakistan and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in information and communication technologies (ICT).
While talking with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation delegation, Syed Aminul Haque said that it was highly praiseworthy that the Organization of Islamic Cooperation was facilitating joint efforts to develop a digital economy and expedite digital transformation in OIC member states.
With OIC help Pakistan capitalizing on knowledge-based economy
He further said that Pakistan reaffirms its full pledge to OIC’s Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) Agenda 2026 and other steps such as COMCEC’s high-level Digital Initiative Program.
He added that Pakistan is capitalizing heavily on the development of a knowledge-based economy and digitally sanctioned society through the usage and adoption of inclusive, affordable, and sustainable technology.
The minister further added that the importance of ICT in the development and economic growth of the country is key and the Government was working carefully with the ICT sector and implementing the policies and procedures that would effectively energize both technology exports and domestic technology implementation.
Pakistan attractive location for offshore outsourcing services
Federal Minister Syed Aminul Haque said Pakistan’s ICT exports recorded double growth in the last three years.
He recalled that according to the 2021 Kearney’s Global Services Location Index, Pakistan was ranked as the second most commercially attractive location in the world for offshore outsourcing services.
He added that Pakistan would like to further fortify its strategic partnership with OIC and seek OIC’s support in emerging technologies such as AI, Blockchain, IoT and Big data, Cloud services, Robotics etc. Officials from the OIC delegation lauded Pakistan’s government steps for the development of IT and Telecom sector.
