Pakistan PM Assures Govt’s Complete Support to UNICEF on Public Welfare Projects

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Tuesday assured the government’s complete support to the United Nations International Children Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for initiating the projects of public welfare in Pakistan.

He made these remarks during a meeting with the UNICEF’s representative in Pakistan Abdullah Fadil. He added that the government of Pakistan will provide all possible facilities to the UNICEF for initiating welfare projects in health, education, and other fields.”

During the talks, Abdullah Fadil also briefed the PM on the measures taken by UNICEF in various areas of the South Asian country.

He told the PM that during the last 5 years, around US$1 billion projects had been set up in a range of fields including clean drinking water, food supply, humanitarian aid, education, and health under UNICEF in Pakistan. The PM lauded UNICEF Pakistan for successfully launching various projects for public welfare.

Terming UNICEF’s role in the anti-polio campaign in Pakistan as of special significance, he added a positive change in the anti-polio vaccination campaign was being seen among the citizens due to mutual cooperation of UNICEF and the government of Pakistan.

Kakar appreciated UNICEF for taking measures in the education sector in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) despite intense Indian criticism, APP reported.

He urged Abdullah Fadil to set up a new and effective strategy to provide education to the out of school kids in Pakistan.

He also supported the measures taken by UNICEF to introduce latest technology in the education sector in underdeveloped areas of Pakistan.
