ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday called for a report on the rising polio cases in the country, directing relevant authorities to quickly develop a comprehensive strategy to address the issue.
While chairing a federal cabinet meeting, he expressed his concern over the increase in polio cases and announced a follow-up meeting to discuss the situation further.
Regarding the recently passed 26th Constitutional Amendment Bill, the prime minister emphasized its importance for judicial reforms and improving the judicial system. He expressed gratitude to political parties for their support, noting that the amendment aligns with the vision outlined in the Charter of Democracy signed in 2006.
Sharif also thanked those involved in successfully conducting the 23rd meeting of the SCO Council of Heads of Government.
During the meeting, the cabinet referred the Domestic Violence (Preventing and Protection) Bill 2024 to the Cabinet Committee on Legislative Cases. The bill aims to establish a framework to combat domestic violence, ensuring punishment for perpetrators and support for victims.
The cabinet approved the appointment of Lt. General (retd) Moazzam Ijaz, Engineer Fahim Iqbal, and Asim Shahryar as private members of the National Vocational and Technical Training Commission Board, based on recommendations from the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training.
Moreover, the law ministry was designated as the transmitting and receiving agency for applications under the Claims for Maintenance (Recovery Abroad) 1959, with a reminder that Pakistan ratified the Convention on Recovery Abroad in 1956.
The cabinet also appointed Dr. Shafia Arshad as Chairperson of the National Council for Tibb, alongside Dr. Rizwan Asif, Muhammad Khurshid Alam, Ikramullah, Moinuddin, and Dr. Attaullah as members. Furthermore, the restructuring of the Pharmacy Council of Pakistan was approved on the recommendation of the Ministry of National Health.
