ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar emphasized on Tuesday the importance of integrating climate resilience and financial considerations into all hydropower projects in Balochistan.
The premier chaired a review meeting on the important matters pertaining to the Balochistan province.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to the progress and prosperity of the people of the province. The meeting, attended by Caretaker Balochistan Chief Minister Ali Mardan Domki, Education Minister Dr. Qadir Baloch, Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir, Caretaker Federal Minister for Planning Sami Saeed, Caretaker Federal Minister for Law and Water Resources Irfan Aslam, and relevant officials, addressed various projects in the province.
During the meeting, the chief secretary briefed him on various projects, and the prime minister directed the acceleration of the construction of a two-lane highway from Khuzdar to Karachi, highlighting its potential to provide an alternate route and strengthen linkages across the country. Immediate resolution of financial issues faced by provincial universities was also emphasized.
Balochistan Progress Govt’s Top Priority: PM Kakar
PM Kakar instructed the formation of an inter-provincial committee for matters related to the Kachhi Canal project, including the caretaker minister for planning and caretaker chief ministers of Punjab and Balochistan as members. The committee will focus on finalizing proposals for the restoration and expansion of the canal. Moreover, directives were issued for the construction of check dams to harness water from hilly rivulets and streams and protect the Kachhi Canal and Pet Feeder from hilly torrents.
The caretaker prime minister also called for the development of a comprehensive mechanism for vehicle registration and fitness in collaboration with the National Highways and Motorways Police and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA).
The meeting highlighted steps taken for free and fair elections in the province, including adherence to the directives of the Election Commission of Pakistan. Mechanisms to enhance tax and non-tax revenues, digitalization of the tax collection system, industry status for the mining sector, and initiatives against illegal fishing in maritime borders were also discussed.
