Pakistan PM Joins Global Leaders in Beijing as Belt & Road Forum Begins

BEIJING: Pakistan’s Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar on Wednesday joined international leaders in China as the Third Belt and Road Forum (BRF) for International Cooperation began in Beijing.

Chinese President Xi opened the Forum with representatives from about 140 nations in attendance.

PM Kakar in a post on X, formerly said that he was honored to represent Pakistan at the 3rd Belt and Road Forum in Beijing, upon the gracious invitation of President Xi Jinping.

“Strengthening our bonds, fostering cooperation, and working towards a brighter future together,” he said.  He went on to say that Pakistan takes pride in successful implementation of various infrastructure development projects under the CPEC, a key initiative under BRI.

Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indonesian President Joko Widodo are among the dignitaries attending the event.

Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar while attending the session also met with Prime Minister of Papua New Guinea James Marape on the sidelines of 3rd Belt and Road Forum.

President Xi in his opening speech highlighted the concept of Belt and Road initiative. He said China was looking forward to enhance ties, engaging in dialogues, forging new partnerships, and promoting regional connectivity for a brighter future.

After the BRI event, PM Kakar will attend in the high-level forum on ‘Connectivity in an Open Global Economy’ and also address the occasion.

In the afternoon, he will hold a meeting his Chinese counterpart Li Qiang and witness the signing of several memorandums of understanding.

The prime minister will also meet with Secretary of the Communist Party’s Central Commission for Discipline, Li Xi. He is also expected to interact with the heads of Chinese business companies.
