NEW YORK: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif met with Ajaypal Singh Banga, President of the World Bank, on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb also attended the meeting.
During the meeting, the Prime Minister expressed appreciation for the World Bank’s ongoing support to the Government of Pakistan in implementing critical economic reforms and addressing challenges such as poverty reduction and infrastructure development.
Sharif updated Banga on the government’s efforts in policy, administrative, and organizational reforms aimed at unlocking the economy’s full potential and promoting inclusive, sustainable growth.
He highlighted recent reforms in the energy, finance, and revenue sectors, noting Pakistan’s anticipation of enhanced support from the World Bank for its revitalized economic reform agenda.
He also emphasized the need to explore innovative financing solutions for key development projects, including water management, energy, and human development.
Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to achieving Pakistan’s development goals in alignment with Vision 2025 and the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.
