ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has directed the relevant authorities to complete the ongoing low-cost housing schemes at the earliest.
He issued these directives while chairing a review meeting of the projects being carried out by the Ministry of Housing and Works in Islamabad on Monday, Radio Pakistan reported.
The Prime Minister also directed the departments concerned to collaborate with the private sector to boost investment in housing projects. He instructed to ensure validation of the third party in federal government housing projects.
Shehbaz Sharif said that construction companies, with international repute, should be selected for projects. He also directed to select the companies for construction projects, ensuring a transparent procedure and on merit.
The Prime Minister directed that all construction projects be completed within their designated timeframes. The meeting was briefed on the dissolution of PWD and other dysfunctional institutions.
The Prime Minister expressed satisfaction over the reduction in corruption following the dissolution of PWD and other ineffective institutions. He also welcomed the digitisation of the system for allotting government houses to employees.
He emphasised that every effort would be made to provide affordable housing to all citizens of Pakistan and that reforms are underway to combat corruption in projects aimed at providing low-cost homes.
The Prime Minister also called for a detailed plan from the Ministry of Housing to ensure the provision of international standard facilities to the public. He instructed that the National Housing Policy be formulated and submitted for approval by March.
Shehbaz Sharif stated that Pakistan’s global image has been restored through the government’s efforts, as the country is now hosting international cricket, other sports, and global conferences.
The Prime Minister further directed the relevant authorities to build international standard hotels, hospitals, and other facilities to accommodate foreign guests.
