Pakistan PM to Advise NA Dissolution Today

ISLAMABAD:  Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has said that he is going to send a summary to President Arif Alvi to dissolve the National Assembly today (Wednesday).

During an interview with a local tv channel the PM said that according to the constitution, even if the president did not sign the summary within 48 hours, the lower house would be dissolved automatically.

He said consultations are underway with the coalition parties on the caretaker set-up, and deciding the name of the interim-prime minister.

He added the finalization on the name of the interim prime minister would be a collective decision, and in this regard, he would hold the first meeting with Opposition Leader Raja Riaz.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif expressing his views said the government has fulfilled its constitutional compulsion by presenting the census results to the Council of Common Interests (CCI).

CEC has mandate to conduct polls: PM

He added that the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) has the mandate to conduct the polls in the country and all the parties unanimously want the elections to be held as soon as possible.

The PM emphasized the need for a balance between civil-military relations and urged all Pakistanis to join hands to address critical issues like poverty, loans, and achieving self-sufficiency.

He called for all the national institutions to cooperate with each other by observing their constitutional boundaries.

Prime Minister Shehbaz said a conspiracy was carried out against the army on May 9 terming it an unforgivable crime against those who have sacrificed their lives to defend the nation.
