ISLAMABAD: Funeral prayer of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been offered in Tehran today. Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has led prayers over the bodies of President Ebrahim Raeisi, Foreign Minister and their companions in Tehran as millions of people gathered to hold funeral procession. Tens of thousands of people flocked to the streets of Tehran today to attend the funeral processions of president Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage, who passed away in a helicopter crash on Sunday. Similarly, in the centre of the city, people holding portraits of President Raisi gathered in and around Tehran University.
Thousands of mourners gathered in Tabriz to bid farewell to Raisi and his companions, Iranian media reported. President Raisi’s burial will take place in Mashhad, a site of deep spiritual significance for the people of Iran. Across Tehran, mourning prevails as people pay homage to their leader, carrying flags and displaying photographs of Raisi as a symbol of remembrance and reverence.
Iranian media reported, that Iran’s presidential polls have been scheduled for June 28. This timeline is in accordance with the constitutional need to hold a new presidential election within fifty days following the president’s death.
