Pakistan PM Visits Iran to Offer Condolences on Raisi’s Death

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has left for Iran today (Wednesday) to offer condolences following the tragic death of President Ebrahim Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and their companions.  Iranian President and his companions lost their lives in a helicopter crash in the Eastern Azerbaijan province of Iran on May 19, 2024.

Earlier, Iranian state media reported that funeral prayer of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has been offered in Tehran today (Wednesday). Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has led prayers over the bodies of President Ebrahim Raeisi, Foreign Minister and their companions in Tehran as millions of people gathered to hold funeral procession. Tens of thousands of people flocked to the streets of Tehran today to attend the funeral processions of president Ebrahim Raisi and his entourage, who passed away in a helicopter crash on Sunday.  Similarly, in the centre of the city, people holding portraits of President Raisi gathered in and around Tehran University.

During the visit, Prime Minister Sharif will meet with the Supreme Leader of Iran Ayatollah Imam Khamenei and the Acting President of Iran, Dr. Mohammad Mokhber, to extend condolences on behalf of the people and Government of Pakistan.
