Pakistan Police Thwart Major Terror Attack on Check Post in Punjab

LAHORE: Police in Pakistan’s Punjab province said on Wednesday that it had repulsed a major terrorist attack on a check post in Dera Ghazi Khan district.

The Khorasan Diary, a media outlet focused on conflict and terrorism, confirmed that the attack was carried out by terrorists of the banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Despite the intensity of the assault, the police, who were on high alert, managed to repel the attackers. The assailants fled the scene after facing a swift and robust response from law enforcement personnel.

The police said that no casualties were reported in the incident, and said that the terrorists retreated after enduring heavy fire from security personnel.

Authorities said that the check posts along the border with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province of the country have been equipped with advanced weaponry, including machine guns and mortars, to counter such terror attacks.

On Tuesday, Pakistan army killed three terrorists while attempting to infiltrate into Pakistan from neighbouring Afghanistan in the North Waziristan district near the Pak-Afghan border.

“On night 25/26 November, movement of a group of khwarij [terrorists], who were trying to infiltrate through Pakistan-Afghanistan border, was picked up by the security forces in general area Hassan Khel, North Waziristan District,” the army said in a statement.

“Own troops effectively engaged and thwarted their attempt to infiltrate. Resultantly, three Khwarij were sent to hell,” said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
