ISLAMABAD: In a ceremony here on Tuesday, Pakistani President Dr. Arif Ali received the credentials from ambassadors of five countries.
After the ceremony, the Ambassador of Austria Andrea Wicke, High Commissioner of Canada Leslie Scanlon, non-Resident Ambassador Serbia Dragan Todorovic, Ambassador of Syria, Dr Ramez Alraee, and non-Resident Ambassador of Slovak Republic Ladislav Ballek had meetings with the president separately.
Talks with Canadian envoy on cooperation
Talking to Canada’s Ambassador Scanlon, Dr. Alvi stressed there were a lot of economic opportunities in Pakistan, which is a market of 220 million people, along with investment opportunities. He said that businesses of Canadian origin needed to be encouraged to look into the potential Pakistan offers.
He termed the Reko-Diq project’s resolution a positive development and believed that this deal would boost the possibility that more Canadian companies would invest in Pakistan.
Dr. Alvi said that Canada and Pakistan enjoyed friendly and cordial relations and that Pakistan was eager to further the booming mutual cooperation in the sectors of commerce, economy, and investment.
Talks with Austrian ambassador on cooperation
In his meeting with the Austrian ambassador, Dr. Alvi said that Pakistan’s ties with Austria were of utmost importance, both country-to-country, and in case of linkage with the European Union.
He conveyed that Austrian companies should benefit from Pakistan’s liberal investment policies and specifically mentioned the Special Economic Zones being set up all over the country for this purpose.
He added that Pakistan provided major opportunities for investment in the fields of railways, communication, hydropower, waste management, and renewable energy technologies.
Talks with Syria ambassador on cooperation
While speaking to the Syrian envoy to Pakistan, Dr. Alvi stressed the need for regular leadership-level contacts along with people-to-people to boost the existing booming ties.
He expressed appreciation towards the Syrian government’s decision to issue Pakistani pilgrims group visas and lauded the decision taken by both countries’ national airlines to launch direct flights between Damascus and Karachi.
Talks with Serbia’s non-resident ambassador on cooperation
In his meeting with Serbia’s non-resident ambassador, Dr. Alvi said that work by both countries was needed to boost their mutual trade and economic ties such that they reach their true trade potential.
He elaborated further that Pakistan offered massive opportunities for cooperation and investment in the fields of communication, technical and higher education, hydropower, information technology, renewable energy, circular economy, industrial and commercial interaction, and waste management technologies.
Talks with Slovak Republic’s non-resident ambassador on cooperation
In his meeting with the non-resident ambassador of the Slovak Republic, Dr. Alvi conveyed his hope that the newly-appointed envoy would help in a positive manner and contribute towards furthering bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
He expressed satisfaction foreign affairs ministries of both countries had established a mechanism to hold mutual political dialogues. This would aid in reviewing the whole relationship and undertaking new initiatives. He mentioned opportunities for mutual cooperation along with investment in numerous sectors, including the electric industry, tourism, automobile industry, energy, construction, infrastructure, machinery, agriculture, and food processing.
