Pakistan, Qatar Agree to Strengthen Cooperation, High-Level Exchanges

DOHA: The leadership of Pakistan and Qatar has agreed to strengthen cooperation, and explore new avenues to deepen bilateral ties stressing the significance of high-level exchanges to enhance mutual understanding.

The bilateral relations came under discussion during the two-day official visit of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Qatar where he held meetings with Amir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani.

The two sides review key opportunities in a number of fields in Pakistan in the context of previous investment pledges. Major regional and global developments of mutual concern were also discussed, said a joint statement issued by PM Office following the conclusion of his visit on Friday.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif thanked for the warm reception and generous hospitality extended to him in Qatar, expressing his keenness to strengthen bilateral ties and develop existing cooperation to broader horizons.

The prime minister lauded the continuous support provided by Qatar to Pakistan in various fields and highlighted investment opportunities in key economic sectors in Pakistan.

The meeting focused on enhancing bilateral ties between the two brotherly countries, with a particular emphasis on investment and trade, alongside discussions on cooperation in other fields.

The Amir of Qatar emphasized the importance of fraternal ties between the two countries and the two sides’ aspiration to boost economic partnership, increase trade exchange, and promote investments.

Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Qatar Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani also met with Prime Minister Shehbaz where the two sides discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explore various avenues of collaboration in the areas of economy, trade, investment and cultural exchange.

Prime Minister Shehbaz during the meeting commended Qatar’s role in supporting economic development in Pakistan, praising the presence of a large Pakistani community in Qatar that acts as a bridge linking the two nations.

The Qatari prime minister termed Pakistan a strategic partner in the region, expressing the Qatari side’s commitment to enhance bilateral economic ties to serve the mutual interests of the two countries.

The two sides discussed regional and international issues, stressing the importance of peaceful solutions and cooperative efforts to address current challenges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz lauded the diplomatic efforts and humanitarian initiatives of Qatar to promote peace in the region, especially the role of Qatar as a mediator regarding the Palestinian issue and its commitment to establish security and stability in the region.

Prime Minister Shehbaz and Amir of Qatar also visited the exhibition “Manzar: Art and Architecture in Pakistan from the 1940s to the Present” organized by the Qatar Museum.
