ISLAMABAD: The Global Firepower (GFP) Index, an annual ranking of the world’s military powers, has placed Pakistan as the 12th most powerful military globally.
“The GFP Index denotes Pakistan as a top 15 global military power,” the GFP stated on its website. “For 2025, Pakistan is ranked 12th, reflecting its strategic military capabilities.
Pakistan has secured the 12th position in the global power index out of 145 countries.
In terms of specific military strengths, Pakistan is ranked 7th most powerful air force globally. For naval power, Pakistan is ranked 27th.
The GFP Index, which assesses military strength based on over 60 individual factors, including military units, financial standing, logistics capability, and geography, placed Pakistan with a PowerIndex (PwrIndx) score of 0.2513.
According to the global firepower report, the US tops the list with the largest and most advanced air force, followed by Russia and China in second and third positions, respectively.
Pakistan’s government allocated Rs2.12 trillion for the armed forces in the current fiscal year (FY 2024-25), representing a significant 17.6% increase from the previous year’s budget. This boost reflected the country’s priorities in a region marked by ongoing geopolitical tensions.
According to ideaspakistan website Pakistan’s military has always maintained a strong presence at the forefront of national developments whilst remaining focused on its primary aim of defending the country’s borders.
The performance of the Pakistan military has earned them national and international acclaim both at home internationally, celebrating their efforts in bringing about law and order in Pakistan, partaking in UN peace efforts, and providing fundamental support and resources during the many natural disasters which sadly Pakistan has faced.
