ISLAMABAD: Foreign Minister of Pakistan Jalil Abbas Jilani on Monday met with Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and reaffirmed commitment to strengthen the existing wide-ranging cooperation with Tehran, a foreign ministry statement said.
Senior Officials from both sides were present during the meeting held at the ministry of foreign affairs in Islamabad. The statement said Iran’s Foreign Minister Abdollahian is on an official visit to Pakistan at the invitation of Foreign Minister Jilani.
The Foreign Minister underlined the imperative for collective approach to fight terrorism that posed a common challenge to both Pakistan and Iran. He stressed that robust institutional mechanisms between the two nations on security cooperation should be fully leveraged.

The two leaders also agreed to immediately appoint liaison officers in Turbat and Zahidan to further enhance ongoing security and intelligence cooperation.
Foreign Ministers agreed to expand economic cooperation
The statement added that the two Foreign Ministers agreed to expand initiatives for economic cooperation including early operationalization of the joint border markets to uplift the socio-economic status of the people of both Iran and Pakistan, especially those living in the border regions.
They also decided to setup a Joint Coordination Mechanism at the level of Foreign Ministers to review and steer progress on common agenda for prosperity and development of the two peoples.
The foreign ministry statement said that regular high-level engagements have positive impact on the bilateral ties between Pakistan and Iran. Foreign Minister Jillani during the meeting renewed invitation to President of Iran, Ebrahim Raisi to undertake a visit to Pakistan.
