ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Secretary Ambassador Amna Baloch on Tuesday emphasized Pakistan’s eagerness to enhance cooperation with the African continent across various fields, particularly in trade, investment, and high-level political relations.
During a meeting with 14 African envoys at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, she highlighted that trade volume between Pakistan and Africa has increased by 75% over the past four years, with significant potential for further growth, according to a press release from the Foreign Ministry.
Ambassador Baloch discussed the positive trajectory of ties between Pakistan and African nations and acknowledged the valuable contributions of the envoys based in Islamabad. The joint meeting signifies the Foreign Ministry’s commitment to reinforcing ties with Africa in line with the Government’s Engage Africa Policy.
Pakistan maintains 19 diplomatic missions across the continent, while 14 African missions are located in Islamabad.
In a gesture of friendship, a tree plantation ceremony was held under the theme of “Pakistan-Africa Friendship” on the ministry’s lawn. This event was followed by a discussion where the envoys shared their priorities and key aspects of bilateral relations.
Mohammad Karmoune, Ambassador of Morocco and Dean of the African Diplomatic Corps, expressed gratitude to the Foreign Secretary for facilitating these discussions and appreciated the unique plantation initiative.
