BRUSSELS: Pakistan has reaffirmed unwavering support for the Palestinian cause while stressing a ceasefire in Gaza.

Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch made the remarks while addressing the Second Meeting of the “Global Alliance for the Implementation of the Two-State Solution” held in Brussels, Belgium on 28 November 2024.

An official press release issued by the foreign ministry on Thursday said that Baloch called for a ceasefire in Gaza; a comprehensive approach for resolution of the Palestinian question.

She stressed the establishment of a sovereign and independent State of Palestine, with pre-1967 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital and full membership of Palestine in the United Nations.

The Foreign Secretary also emphasised the imperative for the international community to intensify its efforts for lasting peace in the Middle East.

Meanwhile, the European Union foreign policy chief in his remarks welcomed the ceasefire in Lebanon and urged the international community to refocus the situation in Gaza and look for a ceasefire in the Palestinian territory.

“Tens of thousands of children. I told you, if you go to visit one hospital for children wounded in Gaza, you feel the need for peace,” Josep Borrell said.

He said the Israeli people mostly believe that the Arabs don’t want peace. “Yes, they want peace, and there is a peace initiative built by the Arabs. Let’s make this initiative be known,” he added.

The EU diplomat was of the view that many in European societies do not see because nobody shows what is happening in Gaza.

“We have to support the people who are working for peace. They are [doing it], and they need our support. We have to support the Arab Peace Initiative – that should be known by the Israeli people,” he said.

The first meeting of the Global Alliance was held last year in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The Global Alliance was initiated last year to promote coordination and advance tangible, irreversible and time-bound measures towards a just and enduring peace in the Middle East, including an end to Israeli occupation and the establishment of an independent State of Palestine.

According to the Gaza health ministry Israel’s war in Gaza has left 44,282 Palestinians dead and injured more than 104,880.
