ISLAMABAD: The Pakistani government on Wednesday reduced the price of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) and increased the rate of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG).

Pakistan’s Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has okayed a reduction in the price of Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) by 8.50% for August.

According to the notification, the price of LNG has been cut by $1.23 per MMBTU for Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL), bringing the new rate to $13.39 per MMBTU. For Sui Southern Gas Company Limited (SSGC), LNG prices have been reduced by $1.22 per MMBTU, setting the new price at $13.15 per MMBTU.

In contrast, the price of LPG has been increased by Rs2.27 per kilogram, with the new rate set at Rs236.99 per kilogram.

The cost of LPG for domestic cylinders has also risen by Rs26.90, bringing the new price to Rs2796.56 per cylinder.

The South Asian nation has been witnessing an increase in the inflation rate since late last year when the government took prior actions and imposed new taxes in the annual budget to comply with the conditions set by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) to revive a stalled $7 billion bailout program.
