NEW YORK: A top Pakistani diplomat has told a UN panel that Pakistan, despite being a victim of terrorism has the will, resolve and capability to defeat externally-sponsored scourge, “ironically” aided and financed by New Delhi.

Ambassador Usman Jadoon, acting permanent representative of Pakistan to the UN, said that they have led the fight against terrorism over the past two decades.  The envoy expressed these remarks during a debate in the General Assembly ‘s Legal (sixth) Committee on ‘Measures to eliminate International Terrorism’.

He called for addressing the unresolved foreign occupation, conflicts, and denial of right to self-determination, particularly in Kashmir and Palestine, to completely wipe out terrorism that has spread across the globe.

Ambassador’s pointed words on Indian-sponsored terrorism and occupation of Kashmir drew a response from a delegate of India, asserting claims on disputed region that a Pakistani delegate strongly rejected in his right to reply, according to APP.

The world, the Ambassador said, has a responsibility to ensure that counter-terrorism efforts were not misused to violate human rights and global humanitarian law, as is being done by India in Jammu and Kashmir and Israel in occupied Palestine.

Highlighting that Pakistan had suffered 80,000 casualties in fighting terrorism, the envoy said the nation continues to suffer from state sponsored cross-border attacks by the Fitna al Khawarij (TTP), Da’esh and insurgent groups such as the Majeed Brigade.

Ambassador Jadoon has strongly condemned Israel’s current aggression against Lebanon and its genocidal war in the Gaza strip, saying it was also seeking to provoke a wider conflict across the region, and must be held answerable.
