ISLAMABAD: As Pakistan observes Defence Day on September 6th, the nation reflects on the courage and resilience displayed by its armed forces and citizens during the 1965 war with India. This day serves as a powerful reminder to all adversaries that Pakistan has always stood united in defending its ideological and geographical boundaries.

Experts emphasize that Pakistan’s unity, then and now, remains unwavering in its commitment to honor, defend, progress, and strengthen national solidarity.

Manzoor Ahmad, an 81-year-old war hero and recipient of various honors, vividly recalls the world watching as Pakistan bravely faced Indian aggression alongside its armed forces. The Pakistani military, with limited resources, demonstrated unwavering resolve against a formidable enemy that was four times its size.

The war of September 6, 1965, symbolizes Pakistan’s resilience and determination, as it effectively defended its borders against all odds. The Indian military, which had boasted about having breakfast in Lahore, faced a resounding defeat as Pakistan’s armed forces and citizens stood as an iron wall.

Abdul Hameed, an eyewitness of the war, attributes Pakistan’s freedom from persecution and its ability to proudly practice its faith to the brave soldiers who defended the nation. Pakistan’s successful defense of its borders during the September 1965 war exemplifies the nation’s determination to protect its sovereignty.

American journalist Rai Milan, who witnessed the war, debunked Indian claims of victory, noting that on the ground, there was no evidence to support these claims. He praised Pakistan’s bravery, confidence, and victorious spirit during the conflict.

Defence Analyst Lt Gen (retd) Naeem Khalid Lodhi emphasized that during the 17-day war, Pakistan’s armed forces, backed by the nation’s support, stood like an iron wall against the Indian onslaught. Despite numerical superiority, the Pakistani military repelled Indian attacks on all fronts, displaying exceptional valor and courage.

The Pakistan Air Force’s (PAF) dominance over the Indian Air Force and the Pakistan Navy’s successful raid on Dwarka are also celebrated as heroic achievements during the war.

As the nation commemorates Defence Day, it honors the sacrifice and bravery of heroes like Major Aziz Bhatti Shaheed, who defended the strategic Bambanwala-Ravi-Bedian Canal (BRB) canal against relentless enemy attacks. Aziz Bhatti’s selfless courage and ultimate sacrifice continue to inspire generations of Pakistanis.

On this day, Pakistan pays tribute to its Shuhada and Ghazis, who, against all odds, defended the Land of the Pure and etched a historic chapter of resilience in the nation’s history.
