ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Islamabad has confirmed a new case of poliovirus, bringing the total of 40 reported cases. The National Institute of Health (NIH) announced that a two-and-a-half-year-old child in Darra Adam Khel, Kohat, tested positive for Type 1 wild poliovirus. This incident marks the second case identified in Kohat this year, highlighting the region’s ongoing challenges with polio resurgence.

In addition to this recent case, four sewage samples from Kohat also tested positive for the poliovirus, raising concerns about the potential spread of the virus. Earlier this month, two more cases were reported in the Sindh provinces, specifically from Sanghar and Mirpurkhas districts. The uptick in cases underscores the critical need for continued vaccination efforts and public health initiatives to combat polio, especially in vulnerable areas where the disease remains endemic. Ensuring the health and safety of children is paramount as Pakistan strives to eradicate polio entirely.
