PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has successfully rescued 200 tourists stranded in Kumrat Valley, a popular tourist destination in the Dir Upper district of the province, due to floods and road blockages caused by heavy rains.
On Saturday, the Tourism and Culture Authority of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) confirmed that all 200 tourists, who had been stuck in areas such as Dojangla, Kala Chesma, and Abshar were rescued and taken to the Grand Palace hotel. They will be transported to Kalam shortly, according to the authority.
A spokesperson for the authority noted that food and other necessary services are being provided to the rescued tourists. The rescue operation is being fully supported by the police and district administration.
A day earlier, 13 members of a family were killed when a house was hit by a landslide triggered by heavy rains in Maidan tehsil of Upper Dir.
Meanwhile, in Balochistan’s Naseerabad district, continuous rainfall over the past 36 hours has resulted in the collapse of approximately 20 houses in Shahpur village, Chhatar.
Additionally, rainwater has submerged the railway track at Dera Murad Jamali railway station, leading to the suspension of Quetta-Chaman train services. The Chaman and Shela Bagh railway stations have also been affected.
The heavy rains have severely disrupted communication systems in several Balochistan cities. Mobile and landline phone services have been down for several hours in Panjgur, with locals reporting a lack of response from the administration.
