Pakistan Saddened over “Martyrdom” of Iran’s President, FM: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Government and the people of Pakistan on Monday expressed deep sadness and shock over the tragic news of the martyrdom of President of Iran Ebrahim Raisi, and the Iranian Minister for Foreign Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian in a helicopter crash.

In a statement, the Foreign Office spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said “We extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and to the people and government of the Islamic Republic of Iran in this moment of profound grief and sorrow. Our prayers are with the families of the martyrs and the people of Iran. We stand in solidarity with them in this time of national tragedy.”

The spokesperson said that President Raisi and Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian were esteemed statesmen and leaders whose contributions to their nation and reinforcing Pakistan-Iran ties and regional cooperation will always be remembered.

Mumtaz Zahra Baloch recalled that both leaders had visited Pakistan this April when significant understandings were reached by the two nations to further solidify their bilateral relations.

Islamabad reiterates its commitment to furthering the bonds of cooperation and friendship with Tehran, as envisioned by the late leaders, she further said.
