Pakistan Says Capable to Thwart Any Threat to its Security, Peace

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Foreign Office (FO) Thursday said that the country was capable and determined to thwart any threat to its security and peace.

Responding to the questions of media persons at her weekly news briefing in Islamabad regarding terrorist threat emanating from Afghanistan, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, the Foreign Office Spokesperson said that engagement mechanism between the neghbouring countries; Pakistan and Afghanistan are functional. Baloch said Pakistan will continue to engage with the Afghan government on matters of mutual concern including security and border management.

Pakistan has consistently said it will continue to support Afghan people in their quest for an independent, unified, and sovereign Afghanistan that is at peace with its neighbours, the Spokesperson said.

In reply to a question, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch stated that a positive momentum is being witnessed in relations between the United States and Pakistan. She said Pakistan wants to move forward on the basis of respect, interest, and mutual trust.   

The Spokesperson said the visit of Army Chief General Syed Asim Munir to the KSA is in the context of promoting Pakistan-KSA relations and defense ties.

On the International Conference on Climate Resilient Pakistan being held in Geneva on Monday next, she said that Pakistan expects long-term response from the int’l community for building a climate-resilient infrastructure.

On the issue of Indian human rights violations in the illegally-occupied Jammu and Kashmir, Baloch said Indian security forces reportedly killed 214 Kashmiris, 57 of them in custody or in fake encounters in 2022.
