ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s security forces have successfully thwarted an infiltration attempt by militants in north western Kurram and North Waziristan regions, local media reported on Saturday.

According to media reports, a group of 20 to 25 of banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in coordination with the Afghan Taliban, carried out an unprovoked attack on Pakistani posts using heavy weaponry this morning.

Pakistan security forces took timely action and foiled the infiltration attempt. They not only neutralised the infiltration attempt but also delivered a strong counterattack.

Reports claim that over 15 militants, including Afghan Taliban members, were killed, with many others wounded.

The operation forces the Afghan Taliban to abandon six border posts, resulting in significant losses on their side. Initial reports suggest significant damage on the Afghan side, with further casualties likely.

Meanwhile, Pakistan’s security forces reported no fatalities and only three injuries despite the intensity of the clash.

Pakistan on Tuesday carried out airstrikes targeting suicide training centres and key hideouts of the banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Afghanistan’s Paktika province.

The strikes targeted and destroyed the operational infrastructure of the TTP terrorists, who have been responsible for various deadly attacks inside Pakistan, military sources informed.

The strikes come after an attack on a Pakistani security check post by TTP terrorists, resulting in the martyrdom of 16 soldiers.

Islamabad has time again urged Kabul to not allow its territory to be used by terrorist groups to carry out attacks against Pakistan.

“We desire good ties with them (Kabul) but TTP should be stopped from killing our innocent people,” Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said in a cabinet address on Friday.

The United Nations Security Council on Friday also said that Afghanistan must combat terrorism and reaffirmed the demand that the Afghan soil should not be used to threaten or attack any country.
