ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday said that his country is active in expanding economic and financial cooperation with Saudi Arabia as the two countries have recently signed agreements worth $ 2.2 billion.
The prime minister expressed these views while talking to the Saudi delegation of the Shura Council led by the Chairman of the Council Dr. Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al Sheikh, which called on him in Islamabad on Tuesday.
He expressed the hope that both countries will start getting the fruits of these agreements soon, Radio Pakistan reported.
The PM expressed Pakistan’s continued support for all efforts against the suffering and human rights violations of the people of Gaza and Lebanon.
On this occasion, the prime minister commended the Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for hosting the Arab-Islamic Summit, which reinforced the Muslim Ummah’s call for peace in Gaza, Lebanon, and the region.
PM Shehbaz highlighted the role of the 2.5 million Pakistani community in Saudi Arabia and said that they act as a profound bridge between the two friendly nations.
Commenting on the Pak-Saudi relationship, the Prime Minister said that Pakistan’s longstanding relationship with Saudi Arabia is a very important pillar of its foreign policy.
The prime minister said that the government and people of Pakistan deeply appreciate the assistance provided by Saudi Arabia in difficult times. He noted that parliamentary exchanges are very important to further strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
He extended felicitations to Saudi Arabia for winning the right to host the “FIFA World Cup 2034” hoping that Saudi Arabia would organize the event in the best manner.
Earlier Speaker of the National Assembly, Sardar Ayaz Sadiq, warmly welcomed Dr Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh and his accompanying delegation upon their arrival in Islamabad.
Sardar Ayaz Sadiq on the occasion stated that Pakistan holds its long-standing brotherly relations with Saudi Arabia in the highest regard.
He emphasised that both countries have stood by each other through every challenging time. The speaker further expressed confidence that the visit of the Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s Shura Council will serve as a milestone in promoting bilateral parliamentary relations.
In response, Dr Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh conveyed his pleasure at visiting Pakistan and expressed gratitude to the Speaker of the National Assembly for the warm welcome. He shared that he has always received sincerity and love from the people during every visit to Pakistan.
Dr Abdullah bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Al-Sheikh is visiting Pakistan at the invitation of Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq. During his stay, the Chairman of the Saudi Shura Council will hold separate meetings with the Pakistani leadership and other political leaders.
The visit is being accorded significant importance and is expected further to strengthen parliamentary ties between the two brotherly nations.
