ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Thursday strongly condemned the continued aggression and atrocities committed by Israeli-occupying forces in the occupied Palestinian territory, particularly in Gaza.
“The indiscriminate violence has claimed thousands of innocent Palestinian lives, including women, children, medical personnel, and humanitarian workers, marking yet another dark chapter in Israel’s brutal occupation,” states a press release the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued here on Thursday.
Pakistan denounced Israel’s latest military offensive aimed at establishing new security corridors, including the illegal seizure of the Morag Corridor and further annexation of Palestinian land.
“The deliberate targeting of a UN-run clinic in Jabalia, which sheltered over 700 displaced civilians, demonstrates Israel’s blatant disregard for international law and humanitarian principles,” the presser stated.
Pakistan has labelled Israel’s actions as war crimes, citing its intent to forcibly displace Palestinians from their homeland. It particularly censured “the sacrilegious storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex by Israeli occupying forces, during the holy occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr.”
This provocative act, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs added, violates the sanctity of one of Islam’s holiest sites and escalates tensions in the region, furthering Israel’s expansionist agenda at the expense of regional peace.
Destruction of civilian infrastructure
Pakistan also condemned the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure and the forced displacement of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians through relentless bombardment and ground operations.
“Ground operations are both morally reprehensible and legally indefensible. Such blatant violations of international law must stop forthwith.”
Reaffirming its unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, Pakistan has reiterated its call for the establishment of an independent, viable, and contiguous Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
Pakistan has also urged the international community to take decisive action to “prevent further loss of innocent lives and preserve the sanctity of holy sites.”
A day earlier, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) adopted a resolution presented by Pakistan on behalf of the OIC, calling for human rights violations in the occupied Palestinian territory, including East Jerusalem.
The resolution—Human Rights Situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory Including East Jerusalem, and the Obligation to Ensure Accountability and Justice— was introduced in response to the ongoing atrocities against the Palestinian people.
It refers to several crimes committed in Gaza, the West Bank, and East Jerusalem, demanding justice and accountability at once.
Ongoing Israeli onslaught
Since October of 2023, Israeli army operations have rapidly increased, killing tens of thousands of Palestinians.
Whole Gaza neighbourhoods have been shattered, and there has been warning of an emergency crisis, and there are alarming shortages of food, water, and medicine with the blockade in place.
The international community, the United Nations, and human rights organisations condemned the indiscriminate bombardment of civilians as well as the massive destruction of Palestinian infrastructure.
Pakistan has consistently denounced these actions, calling for an immediate ceasefire and urging the United Nations, the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and other global powers to make genuine efforts towards stopping the violence and securing Palestinian rights.
