ISLAMABAD: In a gesture aimed at celebrating Independence Day, Pakistan’s government has announced a reduction in the prices of petroleum products.
Effective immediately, the price of petrol has been reduced by Rs8.47, bringing it down to Rs260.96 per liter. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel prices have been cut by Rs6.07 per liter, now standing at Rs266.07 per liter. This adjustment follows earlier reports suggesting a decrease of Rs11 for petrol and Rs7 for diesel.
The price reductions are part of a broader initiative to lower fuel costs, which have been implemented recently.
Earlier to this, the government had slashed prices of petrol and high-speed diesel prices for the next fortnight. The price of petrol was slashed by Rs6.17 per liter to a new rate of Rs269.43 per liter, and the price of diesel was cut by Rs10.86 per liter, now set at Rs272.77 per liter.
These changes, as approved by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and communicated through a notification by the Ministry of Finance, are expected to benefit consumers by potentially reducing transportation and production costs throughout the country.
