ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Wednesday approved a reduction of Rs 1.28 per unit in electricity prices for September 2024 under the Fuel Charges Adjustment (FCA).

According to the notification, a reduction of Rs 1.28 per unit will be applied to the tariff for Distribution Companies (DISCOs). However, this price reduction does not apply to K-Electric consumers.

In contrast, NEPRA had increased electricity prices for K-Electric consumers by Rs 0.40 per unit in the August 2024 monthly adjustment.

The decision followed a request filed by the Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA), which sought a 71 paise reduction per unit for September based on fuel charges adjustment.

This price cut will provide relief to consumers by lowering their electricity bills, with the reduction reflected in November’s bills.

The discount will apply to all consumer categories except lifeline users, domestic consumers using up to 300 units, Electric Vehicle Charging Stations (EVCS), and prepaid electricity consumers.

The authority also clarified that the adjustment applies to domestic consumers with Time of Use (ToU) meters, regardless of their consumption level.

The reduction will be clearly shown on bills based on units consumed in September 2024.
